2022 Wrap Up & Renewed Focus

Finding your way as an empty nester takes focus.

This year has been a year of change.

My oldest graduated college, my youngest entered college and I now live in a different state as an empty nester.

I’m nostalgic for the days when my focus was raising my boys.  Deep in the hustle and bustle of planning, playing and too busy to think about much else.  Between planning meals, cleaning for three and bedtime routines little else was needed to fill a day.

Now there are a lot of hours in the day.  Some may relish in the new found freedom. Others like me, may feel a sense of loss and emptiness. Does that stem from so many years of not taking the time for oneself. I admit it. My kids are my life but now that they are not the main focus, it’s hard.

How does one make this fresh start successful and fullfilling? Writing helps. Planning adventures does too. I think that’s the best bet. Activities with family and others for just me to nourish and replenish.

Writing, creating and making memories are all activities that can fuel a soul.  Life does not end when the kids move out and have lives of their own. It takes a different twist and turn; one that needs some extra navigating and focus.

We can do this. One adventure at a time.
